Hempstead Town Councilwoman Dorothy L. Goosby, MBA, RD, CDN, was elected to the Town Board on November 2, 1999. She is one of the first Democrats elected since 1905 and is the first African American woman to serve on the Town Board.
Councilwoman Goosby has the distinction of being the first Councilperson to run and be elected in five consecutive campaigns. Her election in 1999 was at large for a one-year term; in 2000 she was elected in the newly created First Councilmatic District for a one-year term; and, in 2001, 2005 and 2009, was elected again in landslide victories to four-year terms. Councilwoman Goosby has served as the delegate/representative of the Town Of Hempstead at the New York State Association of Towns since 2004. She was elected in 2009 to the position of 5th Vice President and in 2010 to the position of 4th Vice President of the New York State Association of Towns.
The First Councilmatic District of the Town of Hempstead includes Hempstead, Lakeview, Roosevelt and Uniondale as well as portions of Baldwin, Freeport, Garden City, Lynbrook, Rockville Centre, West Hempstead and Westbury.
In 1988, Councilwoman Goosby and others filed a class action suit against the Town of Hempstead charging that the Town of Hempstead’s at large voting system for the Town Board discriminated against the minority community. In 1997, a Federal Judge agreed and ruled that the Town of Hempstead’s method of voting-at-large was discriminatory and violated the Voting Rights Acts. In January 2000, the United States Supreme Court denied review of the Town of Hempstead’s Appeals. This required the implementation of Judge Gleeson’s order dividing the Town of Hempstead into six Councilmatic districts. Judge Gleeson then ordered that a special election be held for all seats in November 2000.
Dorothy L. Goosby is an alumna of Florida A&M University where a Bachelor of Science in Foods Nutrition and Institutional Management was conferred. A Dietetic internship was completed at Cornell Medical Center at New York Hospital. She received her Masters in Business Administration in Labor Relations/Corporate Finance and Accounting Management from Adelphi University, Garden City, New York. She attended Hofstra University, Hempstead, New York and completed the requirements to obtain certification by the New York State Educational Department as a Certified Chemistry teacher. Councilwoman Goosby is a New York State Certified and Registered Dietitian Nutritionist licensed by New York State Board of Education with more than twenty-five years of exemplary administrative experience in the medical profession. She is a published author whose article Nutritional Management of Long Term Care Resident Receiving Hemodialysis, was published in Topics in Clinical Nutrition.

Lhea Scotto-Laub is the president and owner of Quantum Business Group, Inc. having locations in Syosset and Wantagh, New York. Lhea is an expert resume writer, business writer, interview coach, and recruiter. She has written more than eleven thousand resumes, cover letters, personal statements, essays and bios since 1988 and has placed more than one thousand people in jobs in her career.
In the volunteer arena, Lhea is the current past-president of the Long Island Center for Business & Professional Women. She has been a member of the Center for more than eleven years. Lhea has served as Chair and/or Co-Chair of the Membership Committee, Golf Committee, Community Outreach Committee, Nominating Committee and Newsletter Committee, and Achiever’s Awards committees. Additionally, Lhea has sat on other not-for-profit boards, including LIWA and the US Women’s Chamber of Commerce, New York State Affiliate where she contributed to the launch of the first Diversity Awards on Long Island. She is an active member of Rotary, which prides itself on “service above self.”

Lori Duggan Gold
Lori Duggan Gold joined Adelphi in 2003 as the Director of Public Affairs charged with the revitalizing of the University’s public relations, government relations, and community relations programs. In June 2004, she was named Executive Director of External Relations and Assistant to the President and given added responsibility to oversee the University’s alumni relations efforts.
Following an 18-month strategic planning and growth period, during which the alumni relations program under her leadership experienced double-digit growth in alumni attendance, alumni relations was reestablished as a division of University Advancement when she was asked to take charge of the management and creative responsibility for the University’s marketing and advertising efforts. She was named Vice President for Communications in June 2007.
During her career at the University, she created and implemented national publicity campaigns and worked with marketing and communications teams to heighten awareness of Adelphi and its priorities. She serves as the University’s primary liaison with local, state, and federal officials and is responsible for strategic planning and counseling, issues management, legislative lobbying, and government grants and development, and is the University’s representative at regional and national events.
For more than 20 years, she has provided strategic communications planning advice to not-for-profits, education companies, corporations, and government agencies. She received her baccalaureate degree in politics and metropolitan studies from New York University in 1987 and is currently pursuing a graduate certificate in emergency management at Adelphi University
Roberta Kuehl is Vice President for Marketing and Operations at Neurological Surgery, P.C. (NSPC). She is also President of Roberta Kuehl Realty, LLC. Ms Kuehl has extensive experience and proven expertise in planning and setting objectives, marketing, and the ability to manage working teams. She has facilitated the growth and success of NSPC for the past seven years, helping it grow from 3 to 30 physicians, and from one to 9 locations.
Roberta has a B.A. in English literature and certification to teach from Montclair State University. She is a Certified Public Speaker, gaining her CTM from Toastmasters International in 1997. Roberta served two terms as President of their Huntington Chapter. She is an active member of the Gala Committee of The Leslie Munzer Neurological Institute of Long Island (LMNI) and chaired its first Gala. Roberta served on the Breakfast Committee of The Long Island Fund for Women and Girls (LIFWG). Her long term involvement with Women Economic Developers of Long Island (WEDLI) included serving as President and Program Chair. She was part of the President’s Advisory Council of the Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCCADV) and worked as a catalyst to change the zoning laws in Towns of Oyster Bay and North Hempstead to allow child care programs via the Child Care Council of Nassau County (CCCNC). Roberta also chaired 3 fund-raisers for the Long Island Alzheimers’ Foundation (LIAF) during her 6-year term on its Board of Trustees.
She enjoys travel, ballroom dancing, and singing with the Mineola Choral Society.
Cindy McLoughlin is the Managing Partner of the Audit Practice in the Long Island office of BDO USA, LLP, the world’s fifth largest international accounting firm. Cindy services both private and publicly held clients with operations domestically and internationally at BDO, a firm that has been around over 100 years.
Cindy started her career at BDO in Los Angeles fifteen years ago, moving to New York in 2001. Cindy’s talents were quickly recognized and she was made partner in July 2005 and promoted to managing partner of the audit practice in Long Island in July 2008A graduate of California State University Northridge, Cindy received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and her CPA license. She is also a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants. Cindy has been the recipient of many professional honors and has been included in Long Island Business News’ Who’s Who in Accounting Services and Women in Professional Services as well as awarded one of Long Island’s Top 50 Most Influential Women in Business. Cindy is honored to be a recipient of the Achievers’ Award for the Long Island Center for Business & Professional Women. Her successful career path at BDO has led her to be a role model for many women in the industry and she strongly believes that a woman can achieve a balance of work, community and family. McLoughlin thrives on being part of the vision where people have a career and flexibility in the workforce and as such, plays a key role on the committee for Women’s Initiatives at BDO. She is also a lead partner in rolling out the firm’s Flex Initiative. She also has critical involvement in BDO Counts, a firm initiative for all employees to get involved in various not-for-profit organizations in the local community.
A past honoree and chair for the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women Luncheon, Cindy also serves on the organizations board of directors, devoting time to raise awareness of heart disease and stroke in the community. Cindy recently was appointed to the Advisory Board for Friends of Karen which is a local organization that supports critically-ill children and their families.
Cindy and her husband of ten years, Tom, are the parents of two beautiful girls, Madison, 6 and Morgan, 3, and are anxiously awaiting the arrival of their third child in August. The family currently resides in the lovely town of Northport, New York.
