Pie in the Sky: Plotting Your Life

We can all get caught up in the minutia of everyday life to the point where we sometimes forget to plan for the big picture. Now is a good time to stop and consider how you spend your time - and where it all ultimately leads.

Start off by making a pie chart of your life. Include the percentages of time you spend at work, with family, asleep and at leisure. If you're still taking classes or committing a large chunk of time to another activity, make that a separate slice of pie.

Now picture yourself at 75 years of age looking back on the pie you just made. Is it a life of which you're proud? Were there things you missed out on? If so, sit down now to make a "Life List" of the things you want to see, to learn, to do, to master. Tape the list to the back of your calendar. Then, at the end of the year, you can review it and make a New Year's resolution to work on crossing off at least one item on the list.
