National Association of Mothers’ Centers (NAMC)
Job Description - Executive Director
Mission of Organization:
The mission of the National Association of Mothers’ Centers (NAMC) is to foster communities of women who, through mutual support and public advocacy, explore, enrich, and value the maternal experience. We accomplish that by:
• Creating a network of centers/circles and online networking/programs by and for mothers where non-judgmental communication and peer support is paramount.
• Raising awareness of and promoting maternal well-being.
• Being a resource for individual and center members.
• Advocating for public policies that value the work of caregiving.
In all aspects of its operations, the NAMC cultivates a supportive environment that promotes empathy, fosters personal growth, and builds relationships by encouraging non-judgmental attitudes that enhance communication and rapport between individuals.
Role of the Executive Director:
The Executive Director (ED) reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for overseeing and managing all programmatic, financial, public relations, and administrative issues for the organization. The ED provides overall leadership for strategy, organizational development, implementation, financial oversight, and fundraising. The ED supervises, motivates, and leads a staff of seven.
The ideal candidate will have:

• Experience in non-profit management of a similarly sized/oriented organization (5+ years preferred)
• A robust personal network and a clear track record of leading staff, raising funds, and growing programs
• Exceptional relationship building, interpersonal, and written/oral communication skills
• Experience with consensus decision making, corporate name change, and on-line training/communication

Oversees planning of Board meetings four to six times per year (3-4 face to face meetings on Saturdays; the remainder by phone).
• Maintains highly productive and close partnerships and collaborations with multiple internal and external groups (including the Corporate Committee, library partners, leadership of other like-minded non-profit organizations, and government officials).
• Cultivates relationships with traditional and non-traditional media outlets. Writes or edits and approves all columns, blogs, and newsletters. Promotes media coverage by providing interviews and access to NAMC members to strategic media outlets.
• Serves as the primary staff person for the Nominating Committee and finance and fundraising functions. Is responsible for overseeing the staff assigned as the primary contacts for the program and conference functions.

• Supervises all bookkeeping, accounting, and financial activities delegated to NAMC staff.
• Engages with Board of Directors and the Treasurer in financial planning and development activities.
• Manages and monitors the annual budget, organizational cash flow, accounts receivable and payable, contracts, and the organization’s expenses and assets.
• Works with the Resource Development Coordinator to establish an annual fundraising plan. Obtains and solicits contributions, contracts, grants, and in-kind donations to support NAMC’s projects and services. Pursues opportunities at the suggestion of grantors, colleagues, and others.
